It appears the biggest problem with this kind of battery for golf cart trolleys and children ride-on toy cars and bikes is they are normally used only seasonally. Of course, while they are being used it's often until they are fully depleted of energy and then to add insult to injury they are left in a cold and damp garage over the winter period. This can be very bad for a valve-regulated lead acid battery.

The best practice, if you can, is not to run it all the way down. Every time you use the battery to less than 50% of charge you will reduce the number of charges it will be able to take in its life. This is not always practical we know and that's the trade-off you have to accept. Also if not being used recharge every month or so this will save you money in the long run and batteries will last considerably longer.

Golf cart trolleys and most ride on children toy car will have a sealed lead acid battery. These do not leak if mounted on their side, often called VRLA or AGM batteries do not require any maintenance except of course charging as mentioned above and non hazardous
