KTM began its life in Austria back in the 1930s as a diesel engine repair shop. It has had several name changes over the years, but the initials have remained the same. World War II changed many things in Europe, and in the 1950s, in a bid to create more business, they started making motorcycles, hand-built and not many, using third-party engines, but by the mid-1950s, KTM's were winning races.

There were many trials and tribulations over the years regarding ownership. Still, by the 1970's, they had stopped concentrating on mopeds and scooters and had shifted more toward motocross and Enduro machines. Winning lots of titles, followed by successful track titles after the turn of the millennium, they have also had success in racing cars, becoming the largest motorcycle manufacturer in Europe.

KTM is a recognisable brand with success in not only motocross, Enduro, Street racers and so on, but also merchandising. They make formidable but also very recognisable machines that are well respected and sought after worldwide.
