The Simson origins as a manufacturer date back to the Victorian era, when they produced carbon steel and made gun barrels and guns. Not long after, they also started making bicycles and a short jump to early motor cars and some very important ones at that. Unfortunately for the company and its founders, they were also very successful in making weapons with some important pre- and post-war names, such as the Luger pistol. Car production stopped during the First World War, but restarted soon afterwards.

But it was not long before the German War machine took over the business, forcing the Jewish Simson family to flee the country in 1936, shortly before World War II, and weapon production was increased under Nazi control. This ceased post-war, and much of the equipment was shipped to the then Soviet Union. It was in the 1950's that the focus returned to making motorcycles, and many models of motorbikes, enduro bikes, and scooters have been made since then, right up until 2003, when production ceased.
