If you are using this battery in something with its own mains-connected charging supply, such as an alarm system, you don't need to charge it before first use, as the charger will take care of it and likely do a better job.
If you are using it in a more portable device that is reliant on outside interaction for the charging of it, then charge fully before first use, charge as soon as you can after each use and if not using for long periods, charge every 8 weeks to try to slow down the negative effects of the natural self-discharge that will occur over this period.
