This is a valve-regulated lead acid battery pack often known as VRLA; it is also AGM or absorbed glass mat; these technologies combine to offer you a safe non-spillable power source that can be mounted on its side with no issues; it is not hazardous.

This size battery is fitted in many items, from mobility patient lift to fishing lights; if it is going in a device with constant mains feed, then there is no need to be concerned about the charging regime as it is taken out for your hands. If, however, it's going in a portable device, it's better to not discharge below 50% if you can help.
