This kind of battery can handle many thousands of charges as long as the current draw is low. The further you discharge the battery, the fewer charges it will be able to deliver throughout its life. So charge it as often as you can, and you will greatly extend its life.
It will be delivered to you almost fully charged if it's going into something with its own always-connected mains charging circuit. Maybe something like an alarm monitoring system; then it will look after the charging of it for you. It will almost certainly do a far better job of it automatically than you could. It would not be unusual for a battery to last upwards of ten years in such an installation.
If, however, it's going into a device that requires you to plug it in manually to charge the cells, then its lifespan will be drastically reduced. So it is important to try to keep the battery charged. Charge when it arrives and before first use; recharge immediately after every use. Please do not go out of your way to run it down or discharge it. This will only shorten the expected lifespan. The other thing to remember is that if you are not using the battery pack for long periods, make sure you recharge it every 5 or 6 weeks to maintain a full charge, and never leave it on the charger for more than 24 hours.
This battery type is recyclable; its main component is lead, so ensure you give it to the appropriate body to enable full recycling. Our recycling page includes links to recycling drop-off locations near you. Please do not dispose of household rubbish; it would not be good for the environment, and it is an essential, very useful resource that can be reused. Please do your best to save our planet.
The battery pack is valve-regulated lead-acid, more often called VRLA. It is sealed and will not leak any fluid, making it useful for portable devices. It is also non-hazardous.
Battery Voltage: 6v
Battery Capacity: 4.5Amp, 4.5Ah.
The physical size of the 3fm4, 3fm4.5 and 3fm5 replacement battery is as follows:
Length 70mm
Width 47mm
High 101mm.
As stated above, this battery can be seen in many devices. The primary battery will be as shown in the picture; some device manufacturers may modify parts to fit it into their equipment. Maybe a top cover will change how the terminals sit. You will almost certainly not be able to get a battery with that cover on unless you contact the device's maker. As there are so many different kinds, often in far-flung places, you will struggle. If you have a battery with 3fm4, 3fm4.5 or 3fm5 written on the side and it appears to have a different top, look closely at it. It's probably been glued on, and the regular terminals are underneath. You have nothing to lose by gently easing it off and seeing the proper terminals underneath. Then, it's just a matter of swapping the battery over. Generally, the alternative is to throw the device away, as it's doubtful it will get a battery with the bespoke piece the toy or torch manufacturer stuck on in the factory.
