APC RBC12 battery pack: rechargeable sealed lead-acid VRLA batteries for replacement in a module cartridge. Fits many Smart-UPS systems at a low cost.
This pack includes eight batteries suitable for the RBC12 cartridge module. They are valve-regulated lead-acid batteries with an absorbed glass mat. These advanced technologies combine to provide a sealed lead-acid battery pack that will not leak, so it can be installed in a tower or rack-mounted system without fear of leakage, making it suitable for busy data centres and home offices alike. They are not hazardous and require no maintenance.
In normal circumstances, the lifespan of batteries in a UPS system is between 3-5 years; this is the period quoted by manufacturers, and if your system is sited in a dust-free, climate-controlled space, that might even be improved.
The load when the systems are installed is usually sized correctly. Unfortunately, over time, more devices are added to the power source, and most power supplies have almost doubled their requirement in just a few years, so it is easy to overload them.
The other issue is heat, dust will often start to build on the vents, and unless you use a vacuum regularly to clear it ends up on the fan blades decreasing the ability to keep the system cool, that's if files and other equipment have not been piled on top first restricting airflow, as with most rechargeable batteries you still do need to look after their requirements if you want them to fulfil a long life.
The APC RBC12 fits several Smart-UPS systems. If you know your uninterruptible power supply takes the cartridge module, then this is the correct replacement battery pack for you.
