Battery care is very important and if you don't look after it you will shorten the lifespan and maximum distance it can travel. You should charge it before its first use and after every time you use it but never for more than 24-hours.  Also during the times it may be stored in your garage when it isn't being used, charge it every 6-weeks or so to keep the battery in good condition.
