The PEL S500 & S1000 are solar-powered fence energisers with a battery to help livestock maintain a boundary on larger farms. The S500 is quoted as capable of powering up to 5km of perimeter fencing, and the S1000 of 10 km. While the solar panel helps keep the battery charged, it can only do so much; it will still need to be replaced eventually. You should make a point of periodically checking that it does not require replacement, as it works very hard and will not last forever.
If you will not be using the equipment for long periods, perhaps tuck it away. Fully charge the battery before putting it away. Maybe remove it from the PEL S500 or S1000 and recharge it every six weeks to keep the cells in good order.
The PEL S500 or S1000 battery replacement needs no maintenance; it is a sealed AGM. Please read your manual thoroughly before making any changes.
