After you have unpacked your new battery order from us you will note that they will have a good charge in them, regardless of this you should still complete a full charge before first use, however if it's a battery backup for something that's always connected to the mains like a monitor or maybe a alarm system then you do not need to charge it first as the system will do that for you, you do not need to leave it on for hours on end, it will probably not take very long at all depending on the charger, just until the charger has indicated that it has finished, do not miss out this important first step, it will help set them up and possibly extend the possible overall life expectancy of them
it may well take a number of charges and alternating use in your equipment for the battery to condition and be able to take a full capacity charge, this is quite normal, letting the batteries sit in a discharged state, even partially is not a good idea, so if being used in a portable device as soon as you have used them put them back on charge, do not attempt to deliberately discharge the batteries, it will not rejuvenate them, it will only do them harm and will reduce the life span, if for any unforeseen reason they is an extended period where you are not using the batteries make sure they are fully charged first, then recharge every four weeks but do not leave on the charger for more than 24-hours
