The battery type is AGM, they are dry charged in the factory and once activated with the pack provided will have enough energy to start a normal working engine, this means that the battery is as fresh as the day it left the factory. After you have used the battery to start the engine for the first time it is important to either take her out for a ride (this would be our choice on a sunny day) or put it on a charger as the first charge is very important.
This battery will need no ongoing maintenance, it does, however, need to be kept charged, if you use your bike for a reasonable ride a few times a week all year round then you are already doing a brilliant job in keeping your battery in good order. if however, it spends some of the year not being used then you need to keep an eye on the battery.
Our best advice would be to take it off the motorcycle, store it in a dry place off of a cold concrete floor and charge it every eight weeks. If this is not practical then you have to accept it's not ideal and spend more time with the battery. There can be many things that slowly discharge it, a loose connection, joint, or damaged cable all have the capability of slowly discharging it, you should check the battery with a meter every week to start with to make sure that is not happening and of course charge.
If you have items like an alarm system or immobiliser or another electrical device these will all drain power. We have had several reports of people using plug-in trickle chargers on Harley's in particular, these have proved insufficient in remedying the issue of battery drain. We would recommend using a charger until fully charged and then removing it from it.
