We move many batteries around a lot and are also involved in fitting in many very tight areas; some of the larger ones require a lot of manhandling and the ones without built-in handles require some help sometimes. On these occasions, we generally use rope handles to make the job much easier, not only for putting them in but left on for removal in a few years when they need replacing, the ones on this page also have poly handles to make it easier on the hands (without the tubes the rope can really dig into the palms). Now we regularly use these with batteries upto 40 kilos, they are esially handy when the battery is needed to be lifted into a tight place with no room for the hand to be underneath, and of course a heavy battery on your fingertips is not nice.
Of course, your battery needs to have fixing points for ropes, but most larger ones do. Our battery lifting handles do, of course, require you to put a couple of knots in them after you pass the end through the hole. It is clearly your responsibility to ensure you have secured them properly and that you do not try to lift something that is too heavy, not only for your back but the battery itself.
There are two sets of ropes in this set, 6mm in diameter, approximately 425mm long (17 inches) and two poly tubes around 115mm long (4.5 inches).
They are purchased at your own risk; they are just an aid for convenience. Do not use them if the battery is too heavy for you to lift.
We get asked for these quite a lot, and only used to supply them when our staff fitted larger batteries on marine vessels and commercial equipment such as floor cleaners and scrubbers, but because of demand, we are making our Battery lifting rope handles with poly tube available here.
