The Sterling S400 takes a pair of 12v sealed lead AGM batteries, they connect together to create a 24v back within the mobility scooter. changing them is relatively easy, but they are heavy. first you need to remove the seat, use the lever to unlock, turn it a quarter turn, Then use the recline lever to lift the arm rests and push back of seat down, you can now lift the whole seat assembly straight up and off. Now its just the casing, three winged bolts, one at the front, two at the rear and it will lift off exposing the batteries. Change one at a time so you do not confuse the cables, quite a easy job that takes no longer than a few minutes, but as mentioned the batteries are heavy.
Charge your new batteries when they arrive before using them for the first time, it will take about ten charges and normal use of the scooter before they are able to take a full charge, this is a normal part of conditioning any rechargeable battery. If for whatever reason they are not being used then recharge every four weeks, also after every use, its better to keep at least 80% of the capacity in there at all times, if you take regularly below 50% it will have a detrimental effect on the over life span of them.
