The APC RBC8 or cartridge module number #8 is used in many UPS systems, we have listed some of them below, it contains four valve regulated sealed lead or VRLA with AGM technology batteries which will not leak so can be used in rack mountable or tower orientations depending on what you have, they are hot swap capable.
The expected life span of these batteries in this type of installation is between 2-5 years, this can obviously change depending on the conditions, in a ideal world the UPS system would be sited in a dust free climate controlled room, if you have on of these you are lucky, most do not, you can try to help by regularly vacuum the dust around and on the vents as this builds up inside making it run hotter, the hotter it runs the shorter the life span of the batteries. To often we see the systems sited with very little room around, even sometimes with boxes of files piled on top of them, they need clear ventilation around them, also do not put to much load through them, adding peripherals over time or more energy demanding servers again makes them work harder, consider spreading the load with another machine or extended battery module
