You will probably need a Phillips screwdriver before you start to shut down, unplug all the equipment attached to the device and remove the power socket from the mains, you do not want an unexpected shock.
Pull the cover down and forward at the front of the UPS to expose two screws at the top holding the battery door closed. undo these and you will be able to pull out the batteries, making sure as you do you unplug the lead. Once the batteries are out place the new ones next to them, swap over the leads, and put them back together. It will take most people no more than five or ten minutes.
We often run up the UPS without any load first, this gives the batteries a chance to be charged fully and reset to the new batteries for the first time. this will not take long as the batteries will be almost fully charged but will certainly help.
