If you are using this battery in a UPS or other similar piece of equipment with its own built-in charging circuit constantly connected to the mains, that will take care of the battery for you and generally do a much better job than manually.
If however its a more portable device then charge fully before first and as soon as you can after each use. You can shorten battery life if you leave it in a semi discharged state and never try to run it down for no reason, this will also drasticly reduce the life span. If not used for extended periods, recharge every eight weeks, but do not leave the charger on for more than twenty-four hours until it is fully charged.
