The batteries that you obtain from us will be almost fully charged, but you should still charge them fully before first use, if it's going into a device that is always connected to the mains like a battery backup for monitoring or alarm system then you can miss this step as it will do it for you. You don't need to leave it on for hours on end; it probably won't take long at all, depending on the charger. Just leave it until the charger indicates it has finished; you may be tempted to fit them and go without charging, but if it's going in a portable device, it's worth completing the charge first.
Most users will not even notice but it will take several charges and associated use in your equipment before they are capable of accepting a full capacity charge, this is quite normal and part of the conditioning process, you should fully charge your batteries as soon as you can after every use if being used in a portable device. Do not leave them sitting in a semi-discharged state for any period unless necessary. do not try to fully discharge the batteries, it will not rejuvenate them, it will reduce the lifespan and cost you money in the long run, if for any unforeseen reason they are an extended period where you are not using the batteries make sure they are fully charged first, then recharge every 4-weeks but do not leave on the charger for more than 24-hours.
The battery type is AGM, short for absorbed glass mat construction. They are also valve-regulated, which means they can be used around the home or in portable devices without fear of leakage, with the deep-cycle properties this type of installation requires. They will require no maintenance throughout their entire lifespan and are not hazardous.
