• Acorn Stairlift batteries Superglide

This pack is for the sealed lead batteries used on the Acorn-Superglide, not the 80 or 180 versions.

A stairlift can be an excellent investment, keeping you in your home for an extended period enabling you to get up and down the stairs unaided and the Acorn-Superglide stairlift does exactly this. however, the batteries will not last as long as the stairlift, or hopefully you, and will need changing from time to time depending on use. One important tip is if you do not use the stairlift for long periods and it's not connected to the mains power. it would be a very good idea to switch them on once a month to keep the batteries charged, otherwise, when you do want to use them the batteries will no longer function.

If you have called out an engineer then you will know it can be very expensive just to get them there and that's before they have done any work, changing the batteries yourself is not a difficult job, might take you 30-minutes the first time you do it, and a lot less if you can remember what you did the next time around.

Installing Acorn-Superglide batteries
The batteries are under the plastic cover under the seat, firstly remove all power and disconnect from the mains, lift off the seat, there are two screws at the back which are a little difficult to get to but a small handled screwdriver will fit in there, you should not need to take them all the way out, just loosen them, there is one screw just above the footplate that needs to come out, then there is the cover under the seat the holds on the rubber boot protecting the pole, remove this and the cover will come off. it does take a bit of jiggling but as long as you are gentle it will come up and off exposing the batteries.

These are held in with metal straps and is obvious how they come off before you undo the 4-cables have a look at how they are wired as you want to do the same with the new ones, either write them down or if you want to be modern about it take pictures you can refer to it when you put the new ones in
