Sealed lead AGM batteries require no maintenance. They will not spill and are safe to use. Although the battery will arrive almost fully charged and probably OK to start your bike or whatever you are using it in, you should always charge rechargeable batteries when they arrive. Either way, the first recharge is significant, so allow the engine to run for a good period to replenish the energy level spent starting the engine.
If, for any reason, the battery is not being used, it should be recharged every eight weeks. If it's not being used but connected to the engine, you might have to reduce the period depending on whether something is drawing power.
