You should charge your new battery when it arrives and before first use, but if you do just start it then ensure it gets a good run afterwards as that first run is always important, it will take a few charges on the ATV before its able to get a full capacity charge, this conditioning is normal, you probably will not even notice it.

If for what ever reason its not being used for long periods then a recharge every six weeks will help keep the cells fresh
