Battery type are NI-MH, charge fully when they arrive and first use, if they are not being used all the time then a recharge every 6-weeks would need to be applied to keep the cells in good order plus of course they would have needed to be put away fully charged, do not leave on the charger any longer than required to obtain a full capacity charge, you may note that it will take several charges and use in the vacuum before a full capacity charge is reached, this is quite normal and part of the conditioning process that all rechargeable batteries go through.
