The new batteries that we dispatch out to you will be almost fully charged. However, the system will still need to complete a service charge after installation, so there will be a short period when you do not have the full runtime protection your UPS could offer until it completes this operation. Our best advice would be to allow the system to run without load during the first charge to allow the new battery energy level to reset
It's reasonable to expect a lifespan of 2-5 years in this kind of device; however, that depends on how it's used. Good ventilation is always important, so they are often used on a bookshelf. If you keep the constant load below 40%, the batteries will last longer; a high load will reduce the cells' overall life expectancy.
The battery cells are constructed using absorbed glass mat technology, or AGM; they are also valve-regulated sealed lead-acid, or VRLA. This is the recommended battery type for this installation. They will not leak when mounted on the side, so they are safe to use in a UPS tower or rack-mountable configuration without worrying about spillage in mission-critical applications like a hospital, a busy data centre, or a home office.
