If the bike's parked up for the off-season, the hybrid cell holds its charge considerably better than a straight lead-acid battery over that time. However, it's still worth checking and topping up every month or so during a long lay-up, rather than leaving it completely untouched until the next ride.
When it eventually reaches the end of its service life, this battery shouldn't go out with household rubbish — between the lithium cells and the AGM element, it needs to go through a proper battery recycling point or take-back scheme, and most bike shops will take the old unit back when the replacement's fitted.
