Installing the batteries is a comparatively easy procedure; if in any doubt, refer to your manual for the process. However, the system will still go through a service charge when you fire it up; this will, of course, mean that until this operation is finished, you will not have full backup runtime protection. A fair assumption for UPS battery life is between two and five years; however, how it's used over time will determine that.  It needs good ventilation; batteries will get very hot. If the vents are blocked, it will get hotter. The hotter it gets, the shorter the life. To get longer battery life, try to keep the load below 40%.
