The APC BR1600MI is a Back-UPS machine that is best suited for protecting your equipment at home or in a small office. A very popular model that can be found in a variety of locations. At the heart of this machine, and what gives it the power to do its job, is an RBC166 battery pack and once it has served its purpose, the machine will require a new one to continue operating. Maintenance advise for RBC166 battery pack installed into a BR1600MI
According to APC, the expected life span of these types of batteries is 3-5 years. A dust-free climate-controlled room would be ideal, but not everyone has one, especially with a small battery pack like this. Instead, make an effort to keep the vents clean; dust often accumulates around them. Also, where possible, we recommend using less than 40% load and running without any load after installation.
BR1600MI Installation and user guide
Replacing the pair of batteries in this UPS is very simple and certainly a job within the capabilities of most. To being with, make sure nothing is plugged into the UPS and remove all the wires. Firstly, place the BR1600MI on its side and remove the battery door. Slide the old batteries out and carefully remove the wires. Connect these up in the same manner to the new set of batteries and slide the new batteries into the unit. RBC166 environmentally friendly batteries
They are recyclable because the main component of these batteries is lead or Pb, which can be easily converted into another product. They are typically designed to fit into systems that include energy-saving features that benefit the environment as well. Once they have served their purpose (including the batteries you are taking out of the UPS), please direct them to your local recycling centre.
