The RBC46 is a replacement battery cartridge from APC consisting of a SLA battery designed for use in APC UPS systems. Because the battery is SLA (Sealed Lead Acid), it requires minimal maintenance compared to other types of batteries in the field, such as flooded batteries that would require a regular top up of an electrolyte solution. This is optimal for UPS systems which are designed to run in the background.
UPS (uninterruptible power supply) is a system which provides backup power in case of power cuts, and protects electrical equipment from power surges. They range in size from being able to fit on a desktop in your home to occupying an entire floor in an office block.
The RBC46 is a single battery that fits many smaller APC UPS systems. The battery is not meant to be taken out and charged, as the UPS system charges them by running. After fitting the battery, we recommend running the UPS system without a load to allow it to reset, although this is not entirely necessary.
The battery should last 2-5 years, depending on how much care is given. This can be achieved in ways such as clearing the vents from any obstructions and removing any dust that builds up. This will reduce stress on the battery, allowing it to last as long as possible.
