This 1000VA UPS system is very slim, with a rack height of only 1U. Inside, it has four 6V batteries that provide the energy storage required for backup. Fitting is easy; as soon as you open the case, you will see that. although it's not a requirement we would suggest that you run the device without any load after installing the new batteries, at least until the system has registered them as fully charged, in a ideal world which is not often the case in IT then leave them like this overnight, it's the best was to condition not only the batteries but the device to the new energy level, we have found they end up lasting much longer this way.
Batteries in this type of installation would typically have an expected lifespan of between 2 to five years. How it's used, however, will determine this. Ensure there is adequate ventilation around the device, do not block the vents, you might want to check there is no build up of dust as this gets on the fans and reduces the ability to function properly resulting in it running hotter, the hotter it runs the lower the life expectancy will be. Do not use it as a shelf for files; if the batteries overheat, it shortens their lifespan. To get long battery life, you should keep the load below 40%. It's capable of much more, but the payoff will be reduced battery life.
These batteries are absorbed glass mat, AGM and valve-regulated sealed lead-acid, or VRLA for short; they require no maintenance and, due to their chemistry, can be mounted on the side in rack-mounted or tower UPS systems without the fear of leakage. They are non-hazardous, so they can be used in data centres, hospitals, and, of course, the home office.
