When your order is delivered, your new batteries will be almost fully charged, but you should still fully charge them before first use. However, if it's a battery backup for something that's always connected to the mains, like a monitor or maybe an alarm system, then you do not need to charge it first, as the system will do that for you; you do not need to leave it on for hours on end. it will probably not take very long at all depending on the charger, just until the charger has indicated that it has finished, you may well be impatient and use the equipment without charging but it's worth waiting until its fully charged and will help extend overall life expectancy.
Unless you are a very experienced user, you will probably not even notice that it can take a number of charge-and-use cycles in your equipment before a full-capacity charge is achieved. This is all part of the conditioning process and quite normal. Once you have used your portable equipment, then put the batteries back on charge; do not let them sit in a partially discharged state for any longer than absolutely necessary. Do not try to fully discharge the batteries; it will not rejuvenate them. It will reduce the lifespan and cost you money in the long run. There may well be extended periods when the batteries are not being actively used; if so, ensure they are fully charged beforehand and then recharged every 4-6 weeks, but do not leave them on the charger for more than 24 hours at a time.
These 6v batteries are AGM (absorbed glass mat) and VRLA (valve-regulated lead-acid). They are deep cycle and non-hazardous, so suitable for use indoors or in portable devices. They will not leak; all features make them useful for this kind of application. They, of course, do not require any maintenance
