An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is an electrical device that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power fails. A UPS, unlike an auxiliary or emergency power system or a standby generator, will provide near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions by supplying energy stored in batteries, supercapacitors, or flywheels. Most uninterruptible power sources have a relatively short on-battery run-time (only a few minutes), but it is sufficient to start a standby power source or properly shut down the protected equipment.
When a power outage from the primary source is detected, the UPS's battery "kicks in." If an end user is working on a computer when the UPS detects a power outage, they have enough time to save any data they are working on and exit before the backup power source runs out. When power surges occur, a UPS intercepts the surge and protects the computer from damage. The RBC115 is used in a number of APC smart-UPS uninterruptible power supplies including the SMX1500RMI2U, SMX1500RMI2UNC and the extended external battery module SMX48RMBP2U ( which requires two of them ). We supply the larger 9-amp hour batteries for this cartridge, they are valve regulated sealed lead acid with AGM technology. They will not leak and safe to use in busy data centres and mission critical environments such as hospitals as well as the home or office.
