Although the batteries we send will be almost fully charged, the UPS will still need to complete a full service charge when installed. So, of course, there will be a period when you don't have the full protection your UPS can offer until it completes this operation. The best advice is to let the system run without load to start, so the new battery energy level can reset.
It's reasonable to expect batteries to last between 2 and 5 years in this APC UPS; however, how it's used will determine that. The batteries will get hot during normal use; the hotter they get, the shorter their life, so good ventilation is paramount. Keeping the load low will also help extend lifespan; ideally, keep it below 40%. They are often run to the edge of their capabilities; while they may be able to, it will be at the expense of lifespan.
The battery cells are constructed from absorbed glass mat technology, or AGM; they are also valve-regulated sealed lead-acid, or VRLA. This is the recommended battery type for this installation. They will not leak if mounted on the side, so they are safe for use in a UPS tower or rack-mountable configuration, with no risk of spillage, in mission-critical applications like a hospital or busy data centre, as well as a home office.
