So the light is telling you to change the batteries, this maybe accompanied by a rather annoying noise, don't panic but order the batteries now, they are very easy to fit yourself and this will save you money.
Fitting is easy, after you have disconnected your APC Smart-UPS-700 from the network and the mains power, slip a flat edge like a screwdriver behind the front panel at the top and just down the side, again at the top to release the panel, it will just pop off, it will be attached to the main unit via a flat ribbon cable giving you plenty of room to see the battery door behind, This is held on by two Phillips screws at the top releasing these will enable the door to drop down showing the batteries which are easily slid out, then its just a matter of sopping over the leads with the new batteries, it can help by putting the batteries along side, that way you cannot make a mistake, then just reverse the order in which you took it apart, the whole job will take you between five and ten minutes.
It may be better to run the UPS with your batteries without any load, this will enable the device to condition the batteries and bring them up to full battery charge, it will not take long as our new batteries would have come to you almost fully charged, then when you are happy connect it back to your network.
