Charge your new Dewalt compatible battery fully before you use it for the first time. It will take between five and ten cycles, that is use in your cordless power tool and resulting charge thereafter of the battery before it will reach its maximum energy storage capacity. This is quite normal and a procedure that all rechargeable batteries go through. If you are not using the tool for long periods then as well as charging when you first get the battery also charge every 8-weeks to keep the cells fresh but do not just leave on the charger, 16-hours should be more than enough.

The Ah (Amp Hour) Rating is the storage (or fuel) of the battery, the higher it is the longer the battery lasts between charges.
