This is a sealed valve-regulated battery pack or VRLA. It is also AGM, so completely safe to be mounted on its side. It will not spill and is not hazardous.
This kind of battery is used in many devices. If it is going in an application with constant mains fed power, then there is no need to be concerned about the charging maintenance of the cells. If, however it is going in a portable device of some sort, then charge fully when it arrives and before first use. If you can get away with it, try not to let it become discharged below 20%, as this will help it last much longer. Also, if not being used, you should charge it every four weeks to keep the cells active for future use.
