A reasonable life span of IBM 3000XHV batteries is between two to five years. The usage over time, however, will determine this, do not pile books or files on top of it. It needs good ventilation, batteries will get very hot, and if the vents are blocked, it will get hot. The hotter it gets, the shorter the life. If you can keep the constant load below 40%, the batteries will end up lasting longer. A high load will be at the expense of the overall life expectancy of the cells.
These batteries can be mounted on the side without any issues, with no leaking, which means they can be used in a tower or rack-mountable situations. They are the recommended VRLA type and benefit from AGM technology. They are not hazardous and safe for use in critical environments.
