There are eight batteries in this pack suitable for the RBC12 cartridge module. They are valve-regulated lead-acid along with absorbed glass mat. These advanced technologies combine to provide you with a sealed lead battery pack that will not leak, so it can be installed in a tower, as well as a rack-mounted system without any fear of leakage, making them suitable for busy data centres and the home office alike. They are not hazardous and require no maintenance.
The life span of batteries in a UPS system would, in normal circumstances, be between 3-5 years, this is the period quoted by the manufacturers, and if your system was sited in a dust-free climate-controlled space, then that might even be improved. The problem is most users of this equipment need that. The two things that reduce the life span are excessive load and heat.
The load when the systems are fitted is commonly quantified to the correct level. Unfortunately, as time goes on, more or replacement devices are added to the power source, and most power supplies almost doubled their requirement only a few years ago, so it is straightforward to have too much load.
The other issue is heat, dust will often start to build on the vents, and unless you use a vacuum regularly to clear it ends up on the fan blades decreasing the ability to keep the system cool, that's if files and other equipment have not been piled on top first restricting airflow, as with most rechargeable batteries you still do need to look after their requirements if you want them to fulfil a long life.
