Installation:
This unit will fit many UPS systems, so the procedure can be slightly different, but it's the same; the only tools you will be likely to require are a Phillips screwdriver, a flat screwdriver and a pair of pliers.
Some may be hot-swapped capable, and if so, you can do them one at a time; if not, save any programs and files, shut down the computer systems, and switch off.
Shut down the UPS and remove the power lead.
There will be a front cover; this will pop straight off; on some models, you may need a screwdriver to help ease it off to save your fingernails.
You will then be presented with a battery door, usually held on with a couple of Phillips screws. Once removed, you can unplug the first module and slide it out, then do the same with the second one; once these are on the bench, just swap the leads over to the new batteries. It will be self-explanatory; at one end, there may be a fuse section; again, just swap it to the new set, refit them back in the UPS in the reverse order making sure you re-plug in the modules. The whole job will take no more than fifteen minutes, but do not rush it. Also, bear in mind that these modules are pretty heavy.
The pack, when it comes to you, will have four batteries; these combine to do two battery modules.
Recycling:
Once you have fitted your new batteries, you will want to dispose of your old ones; they are fully recyclable and a valuable commodity. Using this kind of battery is very ECO-friendly, but only if you dispose of them correctly and do not send them to a landfill. If you are unsure where to ship to, your local council will be able to point you in the right direction.
How to extend the life of your batteries?
You should run the system without load directly after the installation as this will help them reset. Other tips on extending battery life are ensuring the system has good ventilation and is clear of dust, stored in a climate-controlled room and using less than 40% load where possible. You should expect somewhere between two to five years, but these simple tips can help extend their life.
These are valve-regulated lead-acid batteries, VRLA; they are non-hazardous and, as they are AGM, will not spill, making them the ideal solution for your UPS power unit.
