Fitting Pride Jet 3 and 7 Ultra battery
Before you start, please turn the power off. Please ensure you are not in freewheel mode and disconnect the controller and the charger connectors. You can then lift the seat from the chair and carefully remove the body shroud, exposing the electrics and batteries underneath. You will see that the batteries are connected to the chair via cables with a connector. You can lift the batteries with the attached harness if you disconnect this. It is much easier than changing the wires on the batteries in the chair. You can always take a picture of the batteries in the chair to have a reference when you put them back.
Now that you have the batteries on a suitable surface, just put your new ones alongside and change the cables over. Then, reverse the procedure and put them back in and the Pride Jet 3 and 7 back together.
Your new batteries will need to be charged before you use them for the first time. So that you know, it may take a couple of charges and use before they can take a full charge.
Now you have your new batteries installed. You will want to look after them in the best possible way. They are capable of many thousands of charges if they are only discharged a small amount. This number will decrease substantially the more you use them. We advise keeping as much energy in them as possible, charging them after every use, and only trying to run them down after charging. This will only reduce the battery's overall life and ensure its early demise. Another point to consider is that, like all rechargeable batteries, they will lose a little energy every month. This is not noticed in everyday use because of your charging regime, but if you are not using it for long periods, this can become an issue. So, in this instance, you should charge every three or four weeks to ensure you fill the cells with energy and avoid an early demise again.
This type of battery is non-hazardous and sealed. It will not leak. They are used on all public transport, although you should advise your airline when booking.
The batteries are recyclable, so a very eco-friendly form of power management, it is essential that they are recycled. You will find more information about this on our recycle page and links to a recycling bank very near you. They will be happy to accept this valuable recyclable product from you, and you will be helping the planet we all live in.
The batteries are valve-regulated lead acid, VRLA, and AGM.
