You are probably more than aware that your stairlift battery is on its way out. Typically fine coming down but struggles going up; eventually, it will stop halfway up. You are probably also aware that a call out to replace them will cost you a small fortune, and that's just for them to get there and have a look and tell you that you need new batteries. The fitting would be on top of that, it's a relatively easy job to do yourself. It's something that will need to be done every few years, so why not get familiar with it?
The same pack will also fit the Brooks-Superglide stairlift.
It's not a difficult job to change them your selves. You do not need to take the chair off the rail. You should, however, disconnect from the mains completely. You do not want any surprises. Pull the seat straight up out of the way. There are two screws at the back that need loosening (you will probably want a stubby screwdriver for this as there is not much room) and one at the front over the footplate that needs removing.
You then have four screws holding the flexible plastic cover under the seat. Thereafter, it's just a matter of gently working the cover off. as it could quite easily be damaged; some care should be taken, as this will expose the battery compartment.
There are two batteries in this set which will be required.
No maintenance is required, and no topping up is required as they are sealed. They are safe, non-hazardous, and not spillable, so they are suitable for indoor use.
There are two 12v 7ah batteries. They combine together in the stairlift to make 24v. Make sure you wire them back in the same way. If you doubt, take a picture on your phone before you undo the cables so you have a reference to work from.
The whole job the first time around should take at most half an hour, the second time around at most fifteen minutes. This is only because it takes time to familiarise yourself, and some of the casing on this model is a bit fiddly.
These Acorn Superglide 120 &130 stairlift batteries come as a pair. They are valve-regulated sealed lead acid, non-hazardous and can be mounted on their side. In the stairlift, they are mounted at an angle, so these batteries are ideal. They also are absorbed glass mat designed technology and will serve you well for this purpose.
This pack contains two batteries for the Acorn Superglide 120, and 130 the sizes of the individual batteries are as follows:
Length - 151mm or 5.94-inches
Width - 65mm or 2.55-inches
Height - 94mm or 3.7-inches.
A question we are often asked is, can I upgrade the Superglide 120 & 130 batteries? Now, about 85% of them come with small terminals, so we usually supply the smaller terminals on them all, as they will also fit the few that have larger terminals. We can provide this battery as an 8.8ah, but this will come with a larger terminal. So there will be available t2/F2 adapters to t1/f1 in the easy upgrade options above; we have provided the extended version there, too, so you can make your own choice; these will, of course, last longer.
