These valve-regulated sealed lead-acid batteries use absorbed glass mat technology, so you can safely mount them on their side without fear of leakage.
The 12V-4.5Ah battery size is used in many applications; we have seen it in lawn mowers, uninterruptible power supplies, essential medical equipment, and even ride-on electric-assisted scooters and bicycles.
If you are using this battery in something with its own internal charging circuit, like an alarm system or UPS, you do not need to charge it first, as this will be handled on board.
If, however, you are putting it in a portable device that requires external charging, charge it fully before first use, charge after every use, and if not being used for longer periods, charge every eight weeks.
