Charge your new battery pack when it arrives and is first used. It will take up to ten charges and use in the tool before it's capable of accepting a full capacity charge. This is quite normal and part of the conditioning process that all rechargeable batteries go through.
If it's not being used regularly, you will also need to recharge it every six weeks to keep the cells fresh for future use. If it’s not charged, it will slowly discharge, and in time, the voltage will drop too low to be recovered.
These older tools were made very well, and attempting to replace them with the current versions offered on the high street is no longer possible. So, the investment in a new battery is a valid one.
