If being used in a portable device, we recommend fully charging first. It will not take long, as they will come to you almost fully charged, but it is worth the wait. We would suggest charging after every use, as this kind of technology does not like to sit around partially discharged for too long. If not in use, recharge every two months. If the battery is used in a UPS or other constant mains-connected apparatus, that will handle charging for you and likely do a much better job.
