Upon receipt of your order from us, the batteries will be almost fully charged but even so, you will still need to complete a charge before first use. however, if it's a battery backup for something that's always connected to the mains with its built-in charging circuit like a monitor or maybe an alarm system then you do not need to charge it first as the system will do that for you. it shouldn't take long as it's almost fully charged already, just until the charger lights indicate it's ready. if really in doubt overnight will be more than enough but it's doubtful you would need to leave it on the charger that long, while you may well be tempted just to fit without charging if it's going in a portable device its worth completing the charge first as it may well extend the life of them.
It's not something that most will even notice but if being used in a portable device it may take a few charges and use in the equipment before a full capacity charge can be reached. it's all part of the normal conditioning process. once you have used your portable equipment then make sure you put the batteries back on charge afterward. do not let them sit in a partially discharged state for any longer than necessary, you should never deliberately go out of your way to try fully discharge the batteries, we are often asked will extend the life but no this will only reduce its life span and cost you money in the long run. If there are extended periods where the batteries are not being used then ensure they are fully charged beforehand then recharged every four weeks but you should not leave them on the charger for more than 24-hours.
These batteries are deep cycle capable, which is essential in this type of application, the VRLA, and AGM cells will not leak as the acid is combined within a glass matting so no liquid, not-hazardous are so suitable for traveling, there is no maintenance required, except of course charging which we have covered on this page.
