Replacing the battery in the APC Smart-UPS SC-420 is relatively easy and well within reach of most people. When you receive your order from us, unpack it, and you will note there is one battery in the box. It may have plastic covers over the terminals. These will need to be removed before fitting if they are present. Make sure you have fully shut down and disconnected all equipment that the SC420I is powering; .then shut down the UPS itself, removing the mains power lead from the wall socket.
Put a soft cloth to protect the side cover and lay the UPS on its side. You will see two screws holding the battery door. Remove these and open the battery door. You will now see the battery, remove this and swap the leads over to the new battery. Put the door back on, and you are done. Bet it didn't take you more than five minutes from start to finish. Just think how much money you have just saved.
This kind of battery pack is a very green way of providing energy storage. But it would help if you recycled it so the lead could be reused.
