The batteries will come out to you almost fully charged, but the system will still want to finish off the full charge, so there will be a period of time where you do not have the full protection that it can offer until it has completed this operation, while it may not be convenient it is best to run without load to start so it can fully reset itself to the new energy level
In this kind of device you would expect the batteries to last somewhere between two to five years, this will however will vary greatly depending on the conditions or storage and overall use, ensure there is always good ventilations around the device, do not allow it to be used as a filing cabinet, if the batteries overheat it shortens the life span, also do not overload, if you can keep the load below 40%, while the system will be more than capable of going higher than that it pays the price of working the battery cell harder which means a shorter life span
