This battery is Ni-MH which is an abbreviation of nickel metal hydride, it may sometimes be seen also as NiMH, it is very similar to Ni-CD and to the end user often is not different, the cells are able to store more energy on a size to size basis as opposed to its cadmium sisters making them more efficient in the matter but it's not normally a factor and quite often you will see many of the charges and indeed the equipment they go in take both.
All rechargeable batteries will lose a small amount of energy every day, this is natural self discharge, best advice is to fully charge your new Ni-MH batteries when you receive them and before first use, if there are long periods where they are not being used then charge before putting them away and every six weeks, you will get away with being a bit longer but its best to be on the safe side.
