The BT Verve 500 handset has many features, its is fully GAP with a 255 name and number directory, capable of receiving and making texts with SIM reader and writer, long talk time and standby times, LCD colour screen and many more, these all obviously take there toll on the battery power and although lithium batteries are capable of receiving many charges there will always be a limit as they are probably talking a small charge a couple of times a day if continually on the base station.
