Installing the batteries is comparatively simple, refer to your manual for the procedure if you are not sure, they will come out to you almost fully charge but the system will still need to complete a service charge upon firing up, so it of course follows that there will be a period of time where you do not have the full protection that your UPS could offer until it has completed this operation, while it's not always convenient it would be best to run without load to start so it can fully reset itself to the new battery energy level
You can expect batteries in this UPS to have a life expectancy of between 2-5 years, this will however very much depend on how they are used, the batteries will get hot in general use, the hotter they get the shorter the life so good ventilation is paramount, keep an eye on the load, do not have to many devices connected, if you can keep it below 40% it will last longer, while its more than capable of going higher it will be at the expense of the battery life
These are valve regulated sealed lead acid batteries and will not leak so there is no problem installing in tower or rack systems as they can be fitted on their side, both AGM and VRLA, they are not-hazardous so safe for busy data centres as well of course as the home office
