Stairlifts can give you immense freedom within your own home, ensuring your residence is suitable without the restriction of stairs. This can be very important both financially and go a better state of mind, giving you the ability to enjoy your much-loved family home for much longer than you would have been able to do so only a few years ago.
Two batteries in this set are required.
Fitting the batteries yourself can seem a little daunting the first time. But it is well within the reach of most people with minimal do-it-yourself knowledge. It will save you considerable money as the call-out fee for an engineer is a lot more than the price of the batteries alone.
You may find there are more instructions in your owner's manual, but the procedure is as follows.
When you receive the parcel from us, unpack it, and you will see there are two batteries, these are 12v each when you put them in the stairlift they will be wired up to provide 24v which is what is required for your stairlift. They will replace your old ones, they may come with plastic covers over the terminals, these will have to be removed before you fit them.
Ensure the mains power has been removed, you do not want shock, its probably easier to work with the chair at the top as it is normally the downside of the chair which has the battery tray, just under the seat you will see two screw heads, sometimes these are security Torx screws so if you do not have that tool you might want to borrow one or buy one, they are now available from most do it your self stores, even supermarkets. Once you have undone the two screws the tray will drop down, so hold it, it holds the two batteries, you will know how heavy its going to be as you have just unpacked the new ones, there will be a couple of straps holding in the old batteries, undo these and swap the new batteries in one at a time so you do not confuse the wires, put the tray back in and you are done, the whole job will be between five and ten minutes, just think how much money you have just saved.
The old batteries can be recycled, they are full of lead, which is why they are so heavy and they are perfect for recycling, you will do you bit for the planet if you do so, it is a very green form of power storage, you can see more information on recycling and links to a bank very near you on our recycle page.
The chemistry type of this battery is valve regulated lead acid, they are also AGM, they are sealed and non-hazardous.

This pack is for two 12v batteries, they combine in the Stannah 260 stairlift to provide 24v, the size of the individual batteries are as follows:
