This battery type is valve regulated and sealed with absorbed glass mat technology, better known as VRLA and AGM, it will not leak if mounted on its side and is not-hazardous so safe for use.
If you are using this battery in a device that has its own mains power charging circuit, for example an alarm system then the on board charger will take care of the charging for you so you will not need to charge before use, typically in these kind of applications the battery will last many years, this is because the on board device will look after the battery much better than you can.

Charge the battery fully before first use, charge after every use, the battery will last much longer this way and if not being used for long periods then charge every two months to slow down the negative effect that occurs from natural discharge.
