This modern slim UPS can be rack-mounted or used in a tower and typically comes with feet to enable it to stand upright. It has many features, including a built-in battery tester informing you of an early warning should it require replacing.

Replacing the batteries yourself can save you a lot of money. It's a job that should not take more than five to ten minutes. Before you start, ensure that you have shut down any equipment that it is supporting, then shut down the UPS and remove the power lead from the device for your safety.

The front panel on the SC1000i pulls off to show the LED control light on one side and the batteries on the other. In the middle of these, you will see the electrical plug that needs to be pulled apart. This disconnects the batteries from the unit. There may be a cover over the batteries. If so, remove it, but you usually can give the lead a gentle pull to slide out the battery pack, which you can then put on your desk or bench for minor surgery. The battery pack consists of two taped together, one on top of the other with the top one upside down and turned through 180-degrees, use a knife to cut the tape, joining them on either side of the plastic separator and both sides.

You will then be able to open the batteries. You will see it is easier to get to one set of leads easier than the other. Please take note of their colour and whether they connect to the positive, red or black, or negative terminals on the battery, then remove and do the same for the other battery, which will now be easier to reach.

Then connect the new batteries to the leads and put a bit of tape on them to hold them together and insert them back into the UPS, put the plug back together and clip the front cover back on and you are finished.

Remember that your old batteries are helpful to be recycled, do not just dispose of them in a landfill.
